Goalkeepers & Goalkeeper Training

FA Qualified Goalkeeper Coaching

Goalkeeping is one of the most important roles in Football and is the most specialised of all positions on the field. At Pocklington Town AFC we have recognised this as an important area to focus on. FA Qualified Goalkeeper Coaching is available for all Goalkeepers within the clubs junior section. This gives our Goalkeepers the opportunity learn and develop through position specific training which is something other clubs in the local area may find difficult to match. Goalkeepers will start with being given the basic essential techniques through to more advanced strategy and theory of the position.

About the Coach

The clubs Goalkeeper coach is Rob Kunkel. Rob has been involved with the club as a player at senior level for over 15 years and is currently the clubs first choice goalkeeper. After being trained by his farther and playing for Pocklington Town AFC, Rob was scouted by York City FC where he spent 3 years at their Centre of Excellence.

After being released Rob played Sunday morning boys football for Shiptonthorpe United and later back at Pocklington Town.

At under 16 level Rob was part of the league winning Pocklington Town side. In the same season the side reached the York FA Cup final which was held at York City FC’s Bootham Crescent.

Rob progressed from under 16s to play for the under 19s in the Northern Alliance East Football League. The league allows Pocklington Town to compete against academy teams based at a Semi Professional level.

Rob started senior football at Pocklington Town AFC at the age of 14 and has played for all 4 teams. The first team currently plays in The Humber Premier League which is the highest level of Amateur football available in the area.

Coaching Experience

Rob has been the clubs junior goalkeeping coach for 10 years. This experience gives the young goalkeepers at Pocklington Town AFC a fantastic opportunity to learn and improve as players throughout junior football. In this time goalkeepers training with Rob have gone on to represent The East Riding County and East Riding Schools. Goalkeepers have also gone on trial at York City, Hull City and Leeds United.

In June 2011 Rob gained his FA Level 1 Goalkeeper Coaching Award and FA Level 1 Coaching in Football. Rob is also has his Emergency First Aid Certificate.

Would Your Goalkeeper Benefit from Specific Coaching?

We feel our Qualified Goalkeeper Coaching is an asset which other clubs in the local area will find difficult to offer. Pocklington Town AFC are happy for anyone interested in having Goalkeeper specific training to contact the Club or Rob Kunkel for further information.
