Predators Ready for the Fight

Selby Town U13s      0
Pocklington Predators U13s      6

Hot on the heels of their recent cup match victories, the Predators were in fighting form for this weekend’s league match against last year’s runners-up Selby Town. Despite the heavy pitch, Pocklington showed supreme class as the team is maturing into probably the best team in the league this season.

Opening the play, Pocklington moved the ball into the Selby half and piled on the pressure immediately, reaching 5 – nil by half time. The first of which began when George Pilkington floated the ball across the goal mouth allowing Rob Cooney to flick it past the keeper.

The second goal came when Nathan “Salty” Saltmer provided George with an excellent opportunity from a deep, long throw only to be thwarted with a foul in the box. The resulting in a penalty was convincingly converted by Jamie Harvey, increasing the visitor’s lead to 2 goals.

With mid-fielder Huw Jones working very hard, showing the skill and tenacity that only he can deliver, Pocklington began to seem unbeatable. This was confirmed with a sublime pass from Joe Aconley to allow George all the space he needed to notch up the Predator’s third. George followed this up with his second, which he slipped in from a crowded goal mouth attack.

The final goal before half time came as Joe found the back of the net off of a well-placed pass from Rob. Rob went onto to steal his second goal mid-way through the second half and seal the Predator’s victory over Selby.
