Predators Continue Winning Streak

22 Jan 2012

Pocklington Predators U14s      5
Aviva U14s      0

Despite losing their first match of the season to Osbaldwick, the Pocklington Predators have since
remained unbeaten, and this record continued for this Sunday’s match against visitors Aviva.

With the wind blowing strongly across the pitch, neither team were going to find it easy, but
Pocklington came out of the starting block on fire as Nathan ‘Salty’ Saltmer took the ball down to the
Aviva goal area to strike take first blood for the home side.

This score-line remained through to half-time as both sides struggled against the conditions. The
Predator’s defences were tested time and again as Aviva seemed to gain more of the possession.
With Eric Hogan and Matthew Terry both playing outstandingly in defence, keeper Sam Flinton had
little work to do, but still managed a clean sheet with one or two exceptional saves.

Half time saw the tables turn somewhat as Pocklington strengthened their offense with some key
substitutions. The second goal came from a perfect through ball from Nathan Smith through to Rob
Cooney. Rob, chasing the ball down, was able to lob it over the keeper.

The third came from a combination of short passing by Ben Potter, Huw Jones and Rob Cooney to
beat the Aviva defences, with Rob claiming the goal. The forth was a superlative crossing shot from
25 yards out, as Salty launched an incredible ball beating the keeper easily. The fifth and final goal
came minutes from the end as Ben Potter’s shot, with an assist from Nathan Smith, found the back
of the net.

Next week, the Predators take on league leaders Brooklyn in a fight for the league’s top spot.
