Having defeated Osbaldwick to go through the 3rd round of the League Cup last month, Pocklington found themselves again at Osbaldwick again today for a league fixture. Proving the cup-match beating was no fluke, Pocklington again achieved a high scoring 5 – nil win.

The cup match score-line last month against Osbaldwick did not reflect the effort and fierceness of play, so it was another tough match that Pocklington braced themselves for at this Sunday’s York City & District Association Football Minor League match.

Playing into a low sun, Pocklington were still able to dominate the first half, and achieve a 2 goal advantage before the half-time whistle. The first was a skilful shot from George Pilkington who, after taking the ball up the right wing was able play the home-side’s defence in towards the goal and position himself for a cross-goal shot. While the ball was always going to find the net, it was deflected into the goal at the last second by an Osbaldwick player.

The next came from a rebounded ball that fell perfectly for Nathan Smith to take a massive shot that proved unstoppable for the keeper.

Early on in the second half, the Predators conceded a penalty that, fatefully, hit the crossbar allowing keeper Sam Flinton to call a halt to any further Osbaldwick progress.

The next came from a brilliant pass through by George to the breaking Danny Shaw, who met the keeper 1 on 1 but managed to dispatch the ball into the back of the net.

George was involved with the next goal with his persistence in shielding the ball before laying it back to Huw Jones, whose looping lob found the top corner of the goal, leaving the keeper speechless.

Play wasn’t all one-sided though, and only a brave interception by keeper Sam Flinton prevented the home side from scoring.

The final goal came from some end-to-end action as ball move swiftly through the Pocklington defence to Danny on the left wing, whose run left him in a perfect position to turn and cross the ball to George, who found his mark and left Pocklington the undisputed winners with a 5 – nil win.
