The Pocklington Predators booked their place in the FA Cup final of the York City & District Association Football Minor League with a convincing 5 -1 victory over York Cubs this weekend.
Danny Shaw scored 4 of the Predators 5, with his first resulting from some great midfield play from Ben Potter and Huw Jones, linking up with Harry Crusher, who then passed into Danny, leaving the keeper with no chance.
York Cubs responded well, playing some good football, as a ball played through by the centre midfield Dom, split the Pocklington defence and a very cool finish from the York Cub’s striker, levelling the scores. Five minutes later the predators were ahead again. This time, a great delivery from Jamie Harvey picked out Shaw to gain his second. To York cubs credit this seemed to spur them on.
After playing some neat football they broke through Pocklington defence only to be denied by a save from the brilliant Sam Flinton, to leave pock with a slender 2 – 1 lead at half time.
The Predators came out in the second half determined not to lose this semi-final. With the back four of Terry, Hogan, Harvey and Wright, all in a mean mood, denying the cubs any opportunity to score, and with the mid-fielders of Potter, Jones, Aconley and Crusher upping their work rate and operating together with Pilkington, pressing and closing down every cubs player it wouldn’t be long before George played a killer ball through to Danny, whose sharp skills, managed to slot a cool ball away for his hatrick.
Pocklington’s fourth came from the hard working Ed Borrie who deserved to be rewarded with a goal. The final goal came from Danny, who broke through the cubs defence so he could rifle the ball into the bottom corner.
This game was a credit to both teams who played football in the right spirit and to all the match officials and we look forward to a great day at the final. The Pocklington Predators are sponsored by Wheelies Cycles Care.
