Predators Celebrate League Victory
22 May 2013
After a rollercoaster of a season that saw the Pocklington Predators losing their bid for each of the York City & District Association Football Minor League FA Cup and League Cup competitions, this Wednesday found them celebrating their well-deserved league victory.
The 2012/2013 season climaxed recently with a 5 – 1 win over Fulford, the only side to have beaten the Predators this season. In total, the Predators reached the League victory with 2 draws, 1 loss and 15 wins leaving them with a total of 32 points. This was just a single point away from Poppleton, who were tipped to win the league, which they topped from early on. In fact, it went right down to the wire with Pocklington needing to win their last match in order to take the league. Anything short of a win would have gifted the trophy to Poppleton.
Suffering a swathe of injuries early on in the season and further commitments from some key players, Pocklington were to struggle to get started. It is testament to the depth of the squad and the tenacity demonstrated by their manager Joe Cooney that the Predators continued to notch up their victories, despite the team’s setbacks.
In the end though, the Predator’s perseverance, depth of squad, skill and talent won out on the day, bringing the York City & District Association Football Minor League trophy back home to Pocklington.
The Predators are sponsored by local cycle centre Wheelies Cycles on the A1079.
