Predators Gain Top Spot in League

18 Mar 2012

Bishopthorpe White Rose U14s      1
Pocklington Predators U14s      3

The Predators moved to the top of the Division One of the York City & District Association Football
Minor League with a 3 - 1 win over Bishopthorpe White Rose.

With drying ground it took both teams time to adjust to the ball bobbling on a tricky pitch, but credit
to both teams, they did try to get the ball down and play some great passing football.

The Pocklington defence made up of Nathan Saltmer, Jamie Harvey, Eric Hogan and Stuart Wright
gave Sam Flinton, in goal great cover, limiting Bishopthorpe’s chances. Great combination play
between Huw Jones, Rob Cooney and Joe Aconley ended with an excellent through ball to Ben
Potter who finished well to open the scoring for the Predators.

Work in midfield, with some great passing and moving between Nathan Smith, Harry Crusher, Jones
and Aconley was beginning to pay off and it was not long before Pocklington doubled their lead
going into half time with a superb 25 yard strike from Nathan Smith.

In the second half, with their opponents trying to up their game, the Predators defence stood solid
and the midfield held their shape with Oliver Hughes linking play well. Nathan Saltmer went on a
great run, laid the ball off to Jones who held off two men, got his head up and passed the ball on to
Cooney for a great finish coming in at the back post.

Bishopthorpe did not give up and a free kick from 25 yards out, left Flinton with no chance. It was
too late for a fight back however, and the Predator ran out 3 – 1 winners after a great team
performance and can now look forward to Poppleton away in the League Cup quarter final next
week.
