Thursday 4th of April saw Pocklington Towns Reserve team in Junior Country cup semi final action at Bishop Burton against Hull County league side Westella & Willerby.

A 6.15 kick off meant that pre match preparations were rushed but with manager Ian Serginson having a full strength squad to pick from, Pock made a bright start against a young Westella side. Town pressed their opponents back with a bright start and it needed solid defending to prevent promising openings becoming clear cut chances.

With Dan O'Connor down the left and Ash Newton and Tom Reay up front, Pock were unlucky not to take the lead with the Westella keeper making a great parry from O'Connors right foot curler. Other half chances went begging while defensively, Town were very solid with the experienced back line of Chris Day, Chris Lochman, Dave O'Connor and Rob Pipe snuffing out any threat from the pacy Westella runners.

The game remained all square at the break and with both teams contributing to an excellent, open game of football, there was plenty to appreciate for the watching spectators. With neither side able to break the deadlock, both teams introduced subs to try and change the game but with the tie entering the last 10 minutes, it became "squeaky bum time" for everyone.

Lochman blocked a 20 yard shot and was fortunate to see the deflected rebound bounce to safety off the foot of the post, while Pock keeper Carl Silburn showed good handling and a smart save to keep the game level. With 5 minutes to go, Reay chased what seemed like a lost cause into the Westella corner and put in a cross that the Westella no. 5 looked to clear.

The ball bounced over his shin though and fell to Tom Hughes who spun and volleyed home on the half turn for a priceless goal for the jubilant Pock team. There was still time for Westella to try and grab an equaliser but led by excellent central midfield performances from skipper Wayne Johnson and Matty Booth and more solid defending, Town saw the game out and booked their place in the final.

This will be against Hemingbrough and is set to take place at Pocklington on Tuesday 23rd of April.
