On Sunday afternoon, Pocklington Predators capped off a tremendous league campaign by becoming champions for the second year running. A remarkable twelve-game unbeaten streak had seen the Preds pile the pressure on title rivals Poppleton Tigers, who having been league leaders for so long, lost two games in quick succession, meaning that victory for Pock in their final game would secure them the league title. However, the Preds knew that they couldn’t take their opponents Fulford lightly, as they were the only team that had beaten them this season - inflicting a 2-0 defeat on Pock back in October.

“Purrfect” Pock display downs big cats. On Tuesday evening, Pock Predators arguably produced their performance of the season, to ensure that the prize from this “big-game hunt” was all theirs.

Pock Town went into this game knowing that a win was vital if they are to have any hope of retaining their league title. With their opponents Selby propping up the league table, it would have been easy for Pock to have fallen into the mind-set of “just needing to turn up” to claim a victory, but a thoroughly impressive team performance ensured that the points were secured, along with a welcome boost to their goal difference.

On a wind-swept pitch, Pocklington successfully fought off Poppleton’s attempts to take the FA Cup trophy from them with a 2 – 1 victory in what was a tough, mid-field battle of attrition.
